Don’t Just Dream It, Work for It

Last week I found myself scouring the menu of my local coffee shop — mocha or caramel? What do you have with your cup of joe?

And as I waited in line, I stumbled across a welcoming sight — a young lady in a cap and gown, holding a diploma shaped balloon waiting for her and a few friends’ order.

The sole symbol of educational success…

And amid the “congratulations” and smiles from everyday coffee goers, it reminded me how far your hard work will take you. Whether that’s educationally or even as entrepreneurs/investors.

I want to do something different in today’s Startup Profits Daily as the winter commencement season comes to a close. The new decade is right around the corner, so now’s a good time for some reflection and motivation to hit the ground running in the new year.

Success Starts With You

You see, when we were kids, we were told that we could be anything we wanted to be when we grew up — a professional athlete, the next Stephen King or an astronaut. We were told to reach for the stars because anything is possible.

We lived our lives with that idea fresh in our minds.

But then we got older and realized being anything we want is a lot easier said than done. Still, many of us continue to reach for the stars… and some of us are lucky enough to do the unthinkable and make our dreams come true.

If you stopped reaching for the stars, well, start back up!

You should never stop following your dreams, no matter what age you are.

The regrets will instantly come rolling in if you put that guitar down, stop practicing your favorite sport or decide not to invest in or create that game-changing product — trust me, regret is a tough pill to swallow, and one that some might never bounce back from.

Why follow your dreams?

Because it will help you grow as a person. It will humble you and it will crumble you, but it can lead to the one thing we are all in search of — happiness.

It could lead to a life of riches, and not just the ones you put in your wallet. In fact, some of us go all in, swing for the fences and end up with a nasty pile of debt. It comes with the territory when you follow your dreams, but don’t let that discourage you.

There’s a reason why entrepreneurs are living out their dreams and many nonentrepreneurs aren’t. Entrepreneurs — well, at least the successful ones — believe in limitless possibilities. That’s how everyone should think.

Believing anything is possible is the first step, and the next is taking action…

Be Smart And Flexible

Remember, though, to actually reach your goals, you have to approach them in the proper way.

No one is telling you to quit your job and start barreling down the path to your dream.

Many artists, for instance, create when they’re not at their day job. These dreamers use all hours in the day to get where they want to be. There are only 24 of them, no matter who you are, so it’s crucial to use them wisely.

The midlife crisis and quarter-life crisis are real, and they usually sprout up because we are, in a sense, empty inside…

Whether you aren’t quite satisfied with where you are in life or you went for the financially stable career rather than the one you wanted, finding your passion later in life can be a very ugly path. But you’re never going to find it if you don’t start on the ugly path at some point.

If you are beaten up, broken down and are starting to quit, just remember that many great people in the past have failed.

Thomas Edison failed. Stephen King failed. Bill Gates failed. Many highly successful people failed before making their mark on the world.

You don’t have to be 20 years old to follow your dreams. There are many successful people who didn’t make a name for themselves until they were much older. The point being a person never knows when they are going to finally catch that big break.

Life is short, but that doesn’t mean it has to be boring. Life can be very tough — this we all know. At the end of the day, no matter what age you are, will you be happy?

Head into 2020 with optimism and a “can do” attitude.

But most importantly, work step by step toward making your dreams come true, no matter how big or small.

Trust me, you can do it!

In the meantime, you know as always that the story is never over — not even close! Our Startup Profits journey is only beginning…
